Sura is an Arabic word for photograph. Arab American National Museum’s SURA Arts Academy – a 2008 winner of the prestigious Coming Up Taller Award from the President’s Committee on Arts and the Humanities – helps students learn to interact with an increasingly diverse world through photography.
SURA Arts Academy, entering its 16th year, is back and better than ever. This winter semester, students will focus on portrait photography, social media, and photojournalism while exploring themes of identity, community, social justice and culture! Former Vogue intern photographer and contestant on Tyra Banks’s VH1 show, The Shot, Piper Carter will be this semester’s SURA instructor. The program will take place every Tuesday starting January 11th – March 14th from 4:30-6:30pm. As with all SURA classes, the students final work will be displayed in the Arab American National Museum’s gallery space in April 2017.
